Our interest in the Pug breed started with a wonderful dog-Ch. Ikaroa Arawa - of excellent type, excelling in movement.

Along with his daughter Ch.Mark-Hi¹s Miss Penelope they made a wonderful winning combination. Winning top show awards throughout their show careers.

Miss Penelope out of Aust./N.Z. Ch Ikaroa Atawhai was a compact little bitch, always full of herself.

Our next addition was Chi-Lo of Sedgebrook, who quickly gained his title, he was by Ch. Tressiders True Blue, a top winning dog owned by Gwen Bridges of Canton Kennels, closely followed by Ch. Moonshine Mildred, another Ikaroa Arawa daughter, who when mated to Bournle Kiwi (imp.U.K.) produced two sons who were unfortunately never shown.

She was then mated to N.Z. Ch.Gailyn Priority (imp.Aust.) and produced the nice little bitch Ch.Saylecrest Merri Poppin, who when mated to Ch. Scarborough PiggyBank, owned by Mrs.West, produced a litter of four bitches, one of which , Ch.Saylecrest Graffiti went on to be a top winning bitch, collecting the Wellington PugDog Club Challenge Trophy in 1996 &1997.

We caimpagned N.Z.Ch Gailyn Priority(Aust.)(a son of Pandemonium at Poosbury(uk) to his title, this lovely, sound moving little dog had a very successful career. Following the death of his owner, he became a permanent resident at Saylecrest.

In 1994 Manorcourt Salylesman was imported from the U.K. A son of Poosbury Punchdrunk, and grandson of Poosbury Piggy Malone, thus tying our breeding lines with N.Z.Ch.Gailyn Priority(Aust.) His performance in the Show Ring was exeptional, he rapidly gained his Ch.title and is a consistant Toy Group winner. He was runner-up for the W.P.D. Club Challenge Cup in 1996.

Saylecrest Graffiti mated to Ch.Manorcourt saylesman and produced Ch. Saylecrest Chaseafitti a treasure to show, with many Group and In Show awards to her credit.

The same year saw a black dog puppy imported from Norway, Roysings Havard Hedde he is from Int.N,Scand,UCH Pugwoods Milli Vanilli, the beautiful black Swedish dog. Although only lightly shown, he has a Best Toy to his credit.

He was followed by Gailyn kahlua a bitch from Gailyn Kennels in Australia.

Havard Hedde was mated to Glomar Kennels Aust./N.Z.Ch.Kerridin Pheadra. From a litter of nine pups, Glomar Black Jack was kept, a small, cobby black, who has won several group awards for his owner.

When mated to Ambarona Kennels bitch Anna Bella, he produced Ambarona Tar Baby, known as Huggy Bear, by his young owner. Unfortunately this very promising young dog died soon after starting a successful show career. A lovely young dog with an impressive head and ample bone.

In 1997 we campaigned Mrs. V. Wrights Aus.Ch.Gailyn Phantom , ( a son of Aus.Ch.Pandemonium at Poosbury U.K.) a lovely young dog who excelled all expectations, an effortless mover and a consistant winner, a real pleasure to show while gaining his N.Z. title, picking up In Show as well as Group awards. He was runner up to the Challenge cup in 1997. While visiting us he was mated to Saylecrest Merri Poppin, producing Saylecrest Murdy¹s Heir,a promising pup who to date has just entered the showring and has two Baby Puppy In Group to his credit.

We are currently successfully campaigning Mrs. Wright¹s Aust.Ch. Gailyn Jacob, a son of Aust. Ch. Pugini Pedro at Poosbury(U.K.) A small sound dog full of character.

We are grateful to Mrs. Wright of Gailyn Kennels for the opportunity to campaign these dogs to their N.Z. titles. It has been a pleasure to show them and a chance to expand our gene pool.

Over the years we have also had the pleasure of campaigning and winning with many notable Pugs, our thanks to their owners. Notably: Ch. Reka True Treasure, who came to us after the death of her owner Miss. Betty Rhodes. She was out of Ch.Pipiwa Reka, a daughter of NZ Ch Sneez-wort Mischief Maker(U.K.) and Bournlie Kiwi(U.K)Ch.Jaekyla Nottis MarkHi¹s Royal Prince, a son of Ch. Ikaroa Arawa Ch. Kelmaris Ceaser, a son of N.Z.Ch.Manorcourt Saylesman(U.K.)

We are well into researching Hemi-Vertebra and strongly suspect it is inherited. To this end we, and in conjunction with Massey University , screen all puppies by x-ray for this problem.

We also run a rescue service, funded by private donations and fund-raising activities, which has mainly been used to re-home pugs after the death of an owner. One little blind Pug was returned to us and has decided to stay. He uses a pack situation to survive and has taught us how stubborn and determined a true pug can be.
